Coater called this morning and said they was ready.

Very nice..Hedman shorties? What type of coating? Who did it? About how much$ ?
I just bought a set for a project but got painted because the htc coated ones were really expensive.
I have a set of shorties on my Malibu that were painted, now rusty.. Maybe I should get the new set coated and put them on the Malibu and used the rusty ones on my low budget Bonneville build....timo22

Thanks for the info. They look awesome and the price sounds really good. Did you have to sandblast them or did you send painted ones?

Those look like the "D" port ones I have for the LT1. Which will need coated after I weld air tubes and an EGR port in them because emissions .

Yes they are for D ports. timo22 I bought them new and let the coating company prepair them how they wanted them. He said whatever Hedman uses on them is pain to get off.

Hedman uses a baked on enamel paint just for storage purposes. I recall reading about it when before I had mine coated, and it said the paint would begin to burn off after several heat cycles.

My old Blackjack headers actually came coated with latex paint. I recall stripping them down and painting them with VHT enamel heat paint. This was before ceramic coatings were introduced. I still have the headers, but can use a fresh coating. Of course, they're no longer being made...similar to Dynamax...which also is out of production.
They are a bit rusty looking, but I like the way they fit. ..probably worth ceramic coating them.
