I havea 87 el camino i havent started it in a while and tryed to start it the other day and got nothing. Battery fully charged and sparks plugs, wires ect are all new. Does any one know the symptoms of a bad feul pump, b/c i resently have had gas in my oil and heard that the fuel pump could cause that.

Is there gas in the carb?
When you move it by hand to you see/hear the fuel spray?
I do know that the "new" fuel seems to evape alot quicker, maybe fill the carb from above.
The gas/oil concerns me.
If you got gas in your oil I would change both the pump and the oil before starting, diluted oil is bad!

does it crank and not fire or not crank at all?

When i move it by hand i dont remeber of i can hear it or not.i find out but what diffenrence does that make. Thanks Kevin

pull a spark plug wire and place it next to a ground where you can see it. crank the engine and make sure you are getting spark. just in case, pull a plug out and make sure it's not wet.
pull out the dipstick and try to light the fluid at the end. if it lights, then you have too much gas in there (if the fuel in the cylinder isn't ignited by the spark plugs it will wash down the walls and get into the oil. but it won't be enough to light on the stick). disconnect the fuel line from the carb and direct it into a bucket. crank the engine over and see how much gas comes out.

These are key questions, here.

Thanks eveyone i really appreciate it, I just whent out side and here what i did. I Am getting spark and my spark plugs arent wet. When i pulled the linkage im pritty sure it didnt spray in there, so i poured gas into the carb and it ALMOST started alot closer than anything i treis for the past 3 days, so , that means my fuel pump is bad, b/c im getting spark but no gas. Thanks again Kevin.

just as a double check, you are 100% absolutely, you'll give me the car for free if you're wrong, positive that there's fuel in the tank right?
i'd also make sure that the fuel can make it to the pump. that it doesn't have an obstructed or a broken feed line from the tank to the pump.
on my monte on level ground i removed the main line at the pump and the fuel just drained out, so you shouldn't have too much trouble. worst case you just apply some vacuum.

Did you pour down the carb or in the carb. By that I mean, did you fill the carb?

If not, fill the 3/8 vent tube and see what happens.

Also if no gas in the oil, tryipriming the system.

Be carefull, with another person, have them put a air line with a blower nozzle in the tank filler. Use a rag to "seal it".Have your helper apply pressure while you crank. You don't need 120 psi,be careful when you remove the air line.

Doing restorations,I have had cars brought to me that have not run in some time, the TA I just got running for the first time in 7 years!
