I am in the beginning stages of designing & building a Cutlass G body drag racer. This car is a Sportsman theme for local bracket racing. The outward appearance will remain mostly factory with the exception of chrome trim removal and maybe painting the chrome bumpers. In addition, it will have aftermarket wheels that are commonly seen on drag race cars. It will be mini-tubed and have about a 31 x 13 slick but have a close to factory stance or slightly lower. It will also have the Euro 87/88 front Fascia and a cowl hood.

I posted these notes in order to give a idea of the overall look.

My questing is about color and design. In my experience, sometimes we are accustomed to seeing a certain look in a car and when that look is changed, it may look "funny" at first glance. For simplicity and easy of painting I plan to do one color then "enhance" the look with tastefully done striping or logo placement. [or both]

So, let me have your feedback and if you have any drag race Cutlass paint job photos, that would be great.

Thanks

Ha, That made me smile. However, it is not my style. As of today I am thinking bright Electric Blue.

sand it down to bare metal, let it sit outside and surface rust then clear coat it!

I actually was thinking of building a street rod like that. Except that it would be done raw welded steel ( or aluminum) then powdercoated clear ( frame and suspension, like Eastern BMX bikes ) , with a black carbon fiber body. That way, you would see the blueing of the metal from where it was welded. I also wanted to do it with a turbo'd Nissan SR20DET 4 cyl from a Silvia, to really stand out. I figure it would piss off the old time purists to do such a sacrelige in a Full Fender Deuce Coupe or a fenderless highboy. Plus, it would have used FD RX-7 suspension, just to make it a pure heretic....

blue is too normal. to some obnoxious color. like people have to close their eyes its so nuts. pretty much so they will always remember the car
