So after everything i've tried to save this motor, it's come time to just rebuild it, after finding out somebody tainted my gas tank with two bags of sugar, i've decided to rebuild it. Ironicly i found that out AFTER i made it up to PA, and that makes sense. I couldn't figure out why the Q-jet i had seized up, or why the rocker arm and studs where pushing out of the sleeves.

But anyways, I bought a pair of 1969 LT1 corvette heads, haven't started rebuilding/dressing them yet, we're waiting till we're 100% certain of what cam we're going to use, then we're going to build the heads around the cam, but i'm almost possitive i'm going with a Comp camps Xtreme energy Hydraulic roller, 252/258 dur , .472/.480 lift .

I've already got a brand new balancer and pullys (gilmer style) for the front, new alternator, the works. Picked up a new Holley 650 street avenger, double pumper. And i've got the 85 series mallory HEI ignition. She's gonna pur when it's all said and done.

Oh and i almsot forgot the icing on the cake, Picked up a used set of Headmen full length headers off my buddy for 50$, i re-did them with header-paint, and i'm having them wrapped.

Sounds like it'll be a decent SBC... 8)

I thought the whole sugar in the gas was busted on mythbusters?

Me too, But obvoiusly they where wrong, and i'd LOVE to send them proof of that. I've got pictures of the ravaged valve train, i've got a q-jet carb that's siezed up with no rust, but instead carmalized sugar. The two back barrels won't even open. And the bottom of my heads/ valves where caked in this blackish clearish rock type sh*t, which is probably whats left of the sugar. So i think i busted the myth busters.

That sucks!!!

Did you have a fuel filter on this thing? If so, I want to know what brand so that I never get one of those!

mythbusters only did a running test. sugar isn't much of a problem as long as it in solution, then the molecules are too small to matter (also small enough to get through most filters). however, when the sugar starts to crystallize it becomes very hard and sticky and expands. when the parts stop moving, the sugar will bond them together. that's why, originally, loc-tite was made with sugar (way the hell back and i don't know the brand name). ever tried to open a jar of jelly with old jelly on the threads?
also, crystals are very hard and can cut metals.

My fuel filter was just a run of the mill, had a metal casing at least. Not sure of the brand lol. And yeah that makes ALLOT of sense, because the cam in this motor, in fact the WHOLE MOTOR had less than 5k miles, i swear to god. And when i removed this cam, it had wear on the lobes like someone ran it hard, for 150k miles. something (sugar) stuck those valves together so hard it literally pushed rocker arm Assembles out of the sleeves on the heads.

But whats done is done, now she's gonna run better than ever!
