I am in the process of rebuilding a 2000 chevy 5.7 engine (switching it to carb) that I want to put in my 78 cutlass. I know I have to change the distributor for the conversion.. I was wondering if the HEI distributor on my 260 V8 olds would work in the SBC.

Thanks

No.

yeah you can buy them from summit all complete and ready to drop in. The cheapest is to go to a local pick-n-pull and grab one from another vehicle w/ a chevy small block. It shouldn't be hard to find one. I'd look for late 70's to mid 80's chevy trucks or suburbans. they would defintely have one. I think the ccc ones are different, so I would make sure the vehicle doesn't have a computer controlled carb.

Being he is rebuilding a 2000 vortec 350 won't he have to change out the drive gear on the distributor, if he uses an older distributor? I thought the newer roller cam blocks required a softer drive gear. Can not remember where I read this at.

That depends on what gear the cam company puts on the cam. Most of them come with an iron gear and will work fine with a stock distributor gear.
