Olds 330 crank and flex plate to 2004R

The 330 crank has a manual trans bushing, it protrudes slightly. I wondering if it is interfering with the converter pilot. Pretty sure it is fully seated, can't fit a finger between the converter and the case on the pump side. There is a gap between the converter and flex plate. Any thoughts?

I found this in another thread by a CO member.
Well, this is interesting.
Bore on a 330 crank: ~1.68"
Bore on a new SBO stroker crank: ~1.71"
Snout on a PATC 200-4r converter: ~1.70"
That is my converter, so it looks like clearancing is in order. Not an easy task with the headers, dropping it back down.

Well, that's pretty inconvenient.
It sure is. How dare the make the pilot smaller than a trans made 20 years later! Just road block #378. I do have a TH350 I just put a Transgo shift kit in and has a brand new 2000 to 2200 stall converter, if need be.

I plan on lowering it just enough today to hit the converter snout with an angle grinder, remove a good amount. Then go around the outside with a die grinder just in case. I assume there is no fluid near that snout? I am pretty sure it is contacting the pilot bushing. I left because I am seriously considering going to a manual trans. I can tighten one side of the bell housing and spin the converter until the other side is nearly tight, then it binds.

Personally, I would remove the bushing, and try it before I started grinding the converter. The hub of the converter indexes the centerline of the converter to the centerline of the crank. Bushings are cheap, if you ever wanted to put a stick in it.

I decided to clearance the round end right off. You could see slight contact at the front edge, a tiny bit larger, clearanced that as well. You can see it in this picture, no longer there and turns with no resistance. I didn't want to have to fight the bushing out.

Harbor Freight has a good small blind hole puller. I used it to pull one from an iron duke 2.5 mated to a 700R in an S10. The original S10 was 700R, the original engine was junk, the replacement engine came from S10 Manual Trans. Once pulled the converter seated just fine.

I would suggest from experience... Pull the pilot bushing out.

Pull it with puller or drill and tap, and use slide hammer. It should come out fairly easy.
