I read somewhere: Olds 307 H/O - 180hp, 245 lbs-ft. SBC 305 H/O - 180hp, 240 lbs-ft. Im not 100% on these numbers and ive also heard the HO305s that came in the camaros were rated at 190hp from 180 in the monte.

the olds as longer stroke so it would have more toque but chevy got the horsepower most the time exept in this case i think the 307 is much better engine what do u think

My opinion isnt really the best considering I have only owned a 305 non H/O. It was an oversized 4 cylinder. NO POWER lol! On paper there both pretty low in power which is why people often throw a 350 in there. I have heard people tell me they run good and last but if you want power I would go another route. Just my opinion . . .

Oh hellsyea!!! I have a 70 455 already .030 over that im waiting to put in my monte!

Yea I gotta find heads also. My dad had some edelbrock aluminum heads that he just sold.

Hi i got to ask what is the diff in the HO vs non HO? All i know is that i had a 305 from a monte ss and a camaro and even what was called a stock 305 and didnt find the diff in all the internal parts of the engine. But the axle gears was diff the monte ss had 3.73 and the camaro had 4.10s and the stock monte had 3.08 or 2.73s.All i can recall seeing in the stock monte axle was the big sungear lol. The only thing was diff was the stock looking alum intake on the ho and cast on stock.

well, they both suck! a better question is 350 vs 350, but that argument gets hashed out CONSTANTLY!
the HO engines had a slightly larger duration cam, and the ECU program was different--IIRC more timing.
