When rebuilding an Oldsmobile V8, is there a preferred oil pump brand? I have access to Mahle pump and pickup/screen, they are both made in the USA. Stock build/standard volume pump.

Also, are there any preferred oil pump driveshafts? I've read about other engines and how the shaft is an inherent weak point in the factory design. I have easier access to a Melling shaft as opposed to Mahle or Sealed Power. Was also looking at the Milodon shaft, but have concern with that not working in conjunction with stock parts.

Mahle oil pump? Didn't know they made one. Most use the Melling drive shaft, oil pump and pick up with a stock pan.

Melling with a bolt on pick up. If its not available a press on is fine but i would tack weld the pick to the body of the pump after its press in.

The Mahle I ended up getting appears to be a Melling, as it has "USA" and the Melling part# stamped into it. Not sure if it's a rebox or if all Mahle pumps are actually Melling.

That being the case, the Melling drive shaft is cheapest and easiest to get through Summit. It will just have to wait until a few other items are ordered (like the timing chain).

Steer my in the right direction with the bolt on Oldsmobile pickup/screen that isn't for a high volume pump/pan. Haven't seen one yet.

Melling did make a stock pump with a bolt on pick up. Last one i seen was 30 years ago.

I used a Melling in mine.

I also used the Melling shaft.

But the Olds shafts are not like Chevys they are just a hex shaped piece of steel.

Not much if anything can go wrong with them

What I was thinking. Have heard people say how they had their pump pickup tube fall off.

the tube tube yes not the driveshaft

Does it happen...🤔......I have heard it happening never seen it except in a 2010 impala.
