So my 81 El Camino project is moving along.I coverted it from auto to manual transmission and it's time for a flywheel and clutch. The engine is a 1990 305 one piece rear main seal, normally set up for a 153 tooth starter motor.
I'm using an early 80's Camaro clutch housing with the down angled release arm.
I checked out a stock new flywheel, the thing was pretty light, about 18 pounds. Is this what they use on later small blocks,a light flywheel? It always seems a 30 pound wheel was proper for street use.
And it looks like it take a different clutch bolt pattern than the typical for ever been the same bolt pattern.

THere were two flywheels used in the 80's on Camaros. The one you reference is the lightweight one used on some performance models like the L69 305 HO. I see no issue with running one so long as it is neutral balance and made for a 1 piece seal flange. If anything, it will help performance by reducing the reciprocating mass of the engine by 12 lbs! Having driven Camaros with this flywheel, I see no downside. I am planning on one with my 350 when I do the T-5 conversion. BTW, how much do they want for those flywheels new?

Thanks for the reply. The Flywheel I bought is made by Daikin,a manufacturer of OEM flywheels for most auto manufacturers according to them.It cost about 80 bucks.GM performance offers two of these same flywheels,a 16 pound and a 24 pound for 250 bucks through GM Direct or Summit or Jegs.
The one piece seal flywheels aren't neutral balanced, they have a small external weight. This is to make up for the lack of the pork chop weight on the end of the older 2 piece flywheel crankshaft that the newer cranks don't have.
It also looks like it uses a different pressure plate design than the older style flywheels.
