Passenger Door Hinge Spring & Check Link.
I went to open my passenger door and heard a loud noise.
I looked at it and it turns out the hinge spring de-materialised.
It is no longer there and the check link which holds your door in position at half or full open is hanging loose.
I searched for the spring, but couldn't find it.
Now my passenger door won't stay open.
I called my local Canadian GM dealer and they say the parts are no longer available.
Local part stores don't have them.
Any chance somebody in the US has new ones available?
Or some good ones already out of a car?

Jeff, NPD lists them as part # C-10454-111 for your Cutlass. $82.89 USD.
I'm sure any GBody would work if you're looking used, but may be worn.
Your spring is probably at the bottom of the fender, loosen lower bolts and it should fall out.
Ron.

You probably need a new hinge assembly as that one sounds like it is worn out. I would try to find one on a 4 door car as the doors are lighter and less likely to be worn out than on a 2 door.

I will add this little tidbit: Replace the bushings and pin in the new hinge before installation. The parts are about $5 at the parts store, and it will save the hinge. Most of the times, the bushings are getting worn out, and it the pin wears through them it will ruin the hinge by wallowing out the hole. I just rebuilt a seemingly good hinge for my car. The biggest thing to check on the junkyard one will be the holds the door open piece as the rivet that it pivots on is usually worn on high mileage examples. Get the tightest one you can find. I went through 20-30 cars at 3 yards before I found a top hinge I was willing to take the time to pull.
