So, I'm going to be adding some subwoofers to my monte this spring. I'm not a big audio guy, and to be honest, I wouldn't put subwoofers in my car but they're just laying around in my garage, so I figured I'd use the better of the two and sell the others.

I don't know much, if anything about car audio, because like I said, it's not a big deal. However, I am aware the equipment I have could probably be purchased at a walmart.

My goal is to spend as little money as possible setting this up. I have all the wiring since the Pioneer set up came out of my fiancees vehicle when she bought it so I'm good there. However, we take my monte on road trips so I want to keep a lot of my trunk space, so I'm looking to find a box that will fit up against the back seat. I have yet to take any measurements but I was thinking a truck box would fit.

With all that in mind, here is what I have:

Pioneer 12" Sub TS-W300R
Peak Power: 600w
RMS Power: 150w
(I just flipped the one sub around for the picture)

By lookin at them, I'd think the spl subs would bump harder but would most likely need to be in a bit larger ported box (larger magnets, larger base(this doesn't work 100% of the time, but gives an idea) I used to be big into audio, I found some of the lower line subs would really bump and be just fine, but the off brand amps were complete crap. Many of the cheap companys rate them at high wattage, but may only out out 100 watts, while stating 2000 watts, etc. Are the spx subs dual voice oil? If u chose to run the spx subs, I'd personally Pwr them with the pioneer amp. I believe it would put out more power, look at the two 25 amp fuses on the pioneer, I'd bet the other amp may have one 20-30 amp fuse? From what I've found, multiply the fuse amps (50)by 13.5 volts and that is the peak power of the amp. D-class Amps are a diff story and require much less to make Pwr.

I have no idea if the SPX are duel voice coil, maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I couldn't find much about the SPX's online.

I've been thinking about it, the pioneer stuff came out of my fiancee's SUV shortly after she bought it and the SPX set up came out of my brother-in-law's continental. Both set ups banged harder than I'd ever want in my own car so I guess what it really comes down to is reliability and available space. The SPX is only 10" so it will probably be easier to fit into the available space. What's your opinion on reliability between the two?

I would go with the SPx subs then if they'll save space.I would use the pioneer amp. If u don't want it too loud, just set the gain to half-way or even lower. I think the pioneer amp would be more reliable and will put out better quality sound. I feel pioneer to be a reliable, decent product on a Walmart budget. Just be sure they're not dual voice coil, if u only hook up one side, they'll blow. Be sure to do a good job wiring everything, it will just cause probs if u don't take your time and do it good the first time. Make sure the Pwr wire is fused, use good 16-14 gauge speaker wire, run rca's on opposite side of car ad the pwr,use connectors on your wire ends, etc.

I'll have to do some more extensive online research, but are there any obvious physical differences that I could look for between a sub with dual voice coil and one without?

U could look to see if there are two sets of factory coiled wire running on the sub. Post up a good close up pic of the bottom of one of them, I should be able to tell.
