I have my 86 Monte Carlo and have a 1-2 inch play in the steering wheel. Have gone thru 2 steering boxes, one rebuilt and a new one which is on now. Also replaced the intermediate shaft. All the steering linkage only has a couple of thousand miles on it. Is there anything in the column that could cause the problem?

There are 4 bolts in the upper part of column that come loose. You have to partially disassemble the column, remove bolts, clean threads and put threadlocker on them. Then reverse process.
Also, the "knuckle" in upper part of column can wear out and cause slop.

Does anybody have a diagram of those 4 bolts and how much of the column do I have to take apart to get to them?

All ya gotta do is use the search function on here. Decades of knowledge......

Can you take a video? Show the play in the wheel and also move the steering wheel up and down and sideways?
