hey guys, well my 79's regal's 301 has been leaking oil from every possible location (worst being the rear main seal) and since my girlfriend has been driving it she finally ran it out of oil too many times and shes knocking. I can get a great deal on a running 71 pontiac 350 2bbl, and i have some questions:
First off im doing another pontiac motor because my a/c still works, and i dont want to hunt down mounts,brackets,a/c lines and such, plus i thought it might be something kinda different.
At this time the metric 200 will be put out of its misery, i have a 200-4r to replace it (im getting the frame extension from g-force, hoping to still use the factory crossmember since i have a new y pipe and high flow cat and catback system and dont need the double hump) But does the stock member work with the extension?
The trans is a BOP bell, but will a 200-4r converter match a poncho flywheel? If not is the 350 and external or internal balance motor? (i read that pontiac motors could be either or)
I know the whole top end of the 301 is different (siamese ports) but can i reuse the distributor or do i have to get one for a 326-455? Summit lists all poncho dizzys as 326-455
Will my belt/bracket system work? I didnt know if maybe the 301 has different bracket holes on the head/intake
Im putting a 4 bbl intake off a 73 350 on this motor and the stock 2 bbl is rated at 250, any other cheap mods that might squeak this sucker to 300? im trying not to use headers, i dont want to have to redo the exhaust and cross member and i really dont want to break into the motor ( i know it doesnt leave much room for most mods, but didnt know if the pontiac guys had any tricks.)
And i will be putting a monte ss 3.73 rear in the (2.41's gotta go haha, and i know i gotta get new lugs for the rear wheels) so im figuring this combo should be a decent daily driver set up and be able to actually pass minivans on the highway.
Anything im missing or need to know?
Thanks guys
Plus i just sold my 10 sec monte, so i need something a little quick to ease my crushed soul.
