Getting a non posi 8.5 10 bolt soon, just wondering if anyone has used a Lock-right locker in one before? Sounds like a good alternative to costs and to the clutch type posi.
I am also looking into a true trac, Eaton clutch type posi and an Auburn gear posi.
The cheapest of the bunch is the lock-right and the most expensive of them is the Auburn posi.

I'm on a very tight budget with this car and the most cost effective posi is the lock-right but i would like some input on it before i go and buy one. I will be running on the street/strip with the street tires being 255/60/r15s out back and drag radials of 275/60/r15s. I have about 500 lb/ft of torque to the flywheel also and the posi will be going into a 3.90 geared,28 spline used Grand National rear

I love my Tru-Trac in my 8.5". The Richmond gears are kind of noisier than GM ones though.

I broke a chunk out of my 7.5" No Slip where the C clip goes in but still functioning, It clunks on right hand turns, only sometimes. I have heard there are more issues with the No Slip over the Lock Right. The 8.5" unit should be stronger. I am south of 400 ft/lbs of torque but not by much.

I think I will be going with the locker after reviewing it on other sites, the only thing i am worried about is if the 275/60/r15 drag radials will grenade the locker since the company says not to use big tires with it. Would I be ok with those drag radials?

I say goo with the tru-trac and call it a day........They are goos units, you could also grab an eaton posi unit for a decent price. Also check on E-Bay as well!!! 8)

if i remember correctly the true-trac is not a good option--IN THIS CASE--they are meant more for track racing and the street and don't hold up on the drag strip.
again IIRC--the lock-right is NOISY on turns, but it does seem to work

If this is an a street car that will actually see some miles in this case especially you get what you pay for. Eaton clutch is THE quality system. If you ever drive both you will never regret the extra that you spend to get the Eaton. I have went and do go the cheap route on lots of stuff but not on a posi unit. And Auburn cones are not rebuild-able and generally don't last. One vote for the Eaton clutch.

I have a no slip Powertrax and a set of 3.42's waiting to go in to my 82. My buddy bought a Powertrax yrs ago for his 68 Camaro and loves it. He has had it for at least 8 plus years.

I would think that the Tru-Trac would be better for track use, since it's a helical gear differential and no clutches. But the clutch differentials are rebuildable and the Tru-Trac's are not. I'd probably give Eaton a call because they would probably know what's best. Be ready with your car's weight and power numbers because I'm sure that makes a huge difference.

Start searching the yards for '80s & '90s Caprice's, especially ex-squad cars with 8.5" rears, and pull the posi-carrier and rebuild it or have it rebuilt.
Top it off with a fresh pair of axles, and you're good to go.
