This summer,I will be needing transport to work, and then college in the fall. I plan on driving my '85 Monte SS clone, but it will be about 5 different colors when I get the rust and damage fixed(passenger door and fender, drivers door,SS nose) . My question is this: to save time and money, can I just prime and seal the car to get it all one color for now, and then paint it later? Would I need to re-prime and re-seal it before I paint it?

Primer isnt waterproof and its not UV proof. Within a few months it will be faded and surface rust will start to appear. I primed my car last christmas and by the end of the summer I had surface rust popping through, thats why im actually painting it and doing it the right way now. My advice to you would be to put some real paint on it like Blitz Black or Hot Rod black so your not kicking yourself in the future.

2 part epoxy based primer is waterproof, but not UV stable so it still needs to be topcoated. It would be okay for a little while though.

Sealing the car now is always a good idea to protect your bodywork from damage until you paint it.
Unfortunately, like mentioned above it is vulnerable to UV damage. Realistically you'll end up sanding most of it back off again and re-doing it prior to laying down your final paint job, otherwise various paint problems could arise...

I dunno how it is where you live but here in Tampa FL there allot of places that do 300 buck paint jobs. But my last Monte was painTed in primer only and it lasted over five years till I started getting surface rust. But then again we don't get harsh Winters here butdo get allot of sun and rain. I won't tell you it be ok but for me it worked. But my car stayed primer the nine years I had it.

we use stuff called dp at work to seal our trucks with it works really good dont know about the uv protetion and fading and all that but it will stop it from rusting what we do it get the panel ready all the body work and sanding down to 180 grit then we seal it with dp it comes in two color i know of a light blue and black and it a 2 to 1 mix.then we use 2k primer to fill in any scraches and it a very high build primer awsome stuff then after we block sand it we seal it again before paint so you could do somthing like that and just have a black car trill your ready for paint hope that helps.
