PROS and CONS????

Pros-loud when you want it. Cons-can be leaky and annoying if you insist on running with them open on a stock or close to stock engine.

Pros
1) Opens up the exhaust allowing gases to escape at a higher rate. Closed you can meet the sound laws in your area.
2) The joy you feel when you see the look on the ricer's face when he sits next to you at a light and you open them up.

The only "Con" I had, was after about a year or so, mine started leaking.

That being said, I'm doing it again on the project car.

Yes! But I gotta say theres too many people that just throw these on a stock engine. Its loud but sounds like sh*t IMO.

Agreed, there is a guy around town here running just pipes. The motor is a stock 305 and he thinks it sounds tough. He accelerates and he sounds like potatoes are shooting out of his assend.

as for performance wise, am i going to gain or lose? i was considering putting them on.. but want to see if its worth it or not, running an 68 olds 350 bored over, aggressive cam, heads built, performer intake, holly 750 4 bbl, hooker headers. i dont know if i should go with the cutout or not, i love loud but sound good at the same time but i also want people to think its a sleeper.. comes to my next question, 3inch or 2.5 inch exhaust,

i am putting 2 1/2 inch exhaust on my 530hp ls3. from what i have read 2 1/2 inch should support up to 600hp. i think the smaller pipe should increase low end torque. in my mind cutouts are going to reduce backpressure and low end torque. just my thoughts.

you think it would reduce lower end torque even if a muffler was added? i know if your running straight pipes you lose backpressure and get less power. but im wondering if i add a cutout to quiet it down and then open it up when i want it loud if it would work?? im thinking it would be the same as putting steelwool in ur tailpipe to quiet it down,.. but with the muffler on i shouldnt lose any back pressure??? someone correct me if im wrong, thats just my out look on it..

I have a set of cutouts on my 442 in a 2.5" x-pipe. I think it runs a little better with the cutouts closed. I doesn't sound crisp enough I think. The cutouts are placed about 12" out of mid-length headers, for noise purposes only. If I did it over I think I would use 3" to the cutout and 2.5 from there back. I have turn downs right after the cutouts. Originally I had them placed after the x-pipe but it wasn't as loud as it is now. I read in a mag that you should mark your pipe with a crayon and place the cutout where the crayon stops melting off for optimum performance. I put the same setup as my current exhaust on a friends Chevelle with a carbed SBC running long tube headers and they sound awesome. I have QTP from Summit and use them regularly, they work every time. The Chevelle has a pair of Jegs knock-offs and one came apart within a year.
