Welcome aboard from KY. We're in the same boat. I'm currently finalizing my parts list to button up my 5.3 short block.
I'd recommend trying to find a complete takeout engine w/ harness and ecu. Most boneyard units will most likely require new gaskets/seals which are readily available via summit, jegs, ebay, etc.
I came across a freshly built short block that was to hard to pass up, came with some extra stuff, but no valvetrain or heads. Parts get pricey quick, but these engines will last a long time if treated right.

There are many companies offering swap stuff to drop an LS into g bodies. I've used ICT billet now for a few things such as motor mount swap plates....made of billet and only $35 on ebay. Holley makes nice stuff, but super pricey if you're trying to stay budget minded. Check out the Gbody Lsx swap threads....bunch of useful information. Here's a pic of the swap plates.

Hope this helps man, I'm sure others will chime in.

Welcome and will be watching this build closely in case I decide to go a similar route.
