hi all new to the forum, i had some tips given to me on setting my timing on my oldsmobile 350, now i got her to start up, i want to tune the carb a bit because its burning pretty rich at the moment.
thank you for any input.

Is it rich when warm ? or cold ?

when warm; choke must be sticking on close ( choke spring to be changed )if electric, check if you have 12V reading on wire ....
when cold ; choke vaccum break not functionning choke stays totally close causing overich condition ( black smoke from exhaust)

^ what he said

best thing to do is find a manual or writeup on the q-jet, and a vacuum gauge.
basic idle mixture is done through the two base plate screws up front. tune them for highest vacuum. make sure the gauge is hooked into manifold vacuum and not ported.
other adjustments require partial disassembly, which is why i recommend a book on the subject. while you're at it, you might want to check out Cliff Ruggles book on modifying and upgrading the carb for more power.
