I need some help with my quadrajet carb, its a stock 305 motor from at 84 monte carlo. my carb keeps flooding it seems like a problem from the needle and seat, when i start the car it idles ruff and starts dieing and then shuts down and lets a big puff of smoke out the carb. i notticed the carburetor valve its stuck open and wont shut by the spring, i was messing aroud with the needle and seat area and got it to shut, then i fired her up and everything seemed ok but soon started flooding and shut down, the valve on the top of the carb is stuck open. I really want to get the problem solved and start driving. Thank you

Sounds to me like you broke the TPS plunger when you reassembled the airhorn to the venturi. If so, the ECU reads WOT and allows the MC Solenoid full flow so that it gives it way too much gas. If you do not depress the plunger with a screwdriver while dropping the lid back on, it will break and need to be replaced.

now its running fine and doent flood but when i shift it to gear it doesnt want to shift and doesnt move till i give it alot of gas, and the carb's makeing a wierd vacuum sucking sound :x

put a holley in there man. Mine was doing the same thing and I could never get it tuned right (partly cause the previous owners cut every wire coming out of the fire-wall)
