I'm getting ready to have my 87 El Camino painted. I'm trying to gather up all the necessary gaskets and window felts. etc. When it comes to the quarter windows do they set in some type of gasket or seal to keep them from leaking? If so, where might I find them?
Thanks

The windows are held in with butyl rubber putty strip, just like the windshield and rear glass. Also while the quarter glass is out replace the beltline molding it is the only chance you will have. I am doing a restore project, and am having my local glass company come out and remove all the glass from my car, and re-install it after the paint. Actually very reasonable price!

Pardon my ignorance but I am new to this. Can you tell me what a beltline molding is? Thanks.

I would definitely recommend removing the quarter windows before you paint the car. I did not, and it was a freakin job to cut out the 30 plus year old butyl rubber and scrape it off the glass and the body .We got lucky and did not mess up any thing, but it took about two hours to cut that crap out clean up everything and install the new moldings, mine where repops and it took a bit of fussing with them to get it right but luckily we did not damage the paint or break ether glass.

to get the old glue off i used an old bicycle break line through the goop and then with a sawing motion "cut out" the window. then i used a razer scraper to remove the glue from the window and the body.
