The shaft is broken off the window frame on the bottom where the windows pivot at. Both sides have this problem.

Has anyone found a way to fix this without having to buy a whole new set of windows? This is one of the last things that doesn't work on this car and would great if they did.

Is it possible to take the glass out of the frame and if it is how would that be done? I'm thinking take out the glass and somehow weld the rod back on to the frame.

Never found how to remove the windows from the vent. I guess welding would be a good solution, because besides that, these vents are in good shape.

Nice car, by the way. Century's are not seen that often.

A/G body wagons suffer from the same malady. The shafts seize, and when trying to move the windows, the shaft snaps where it's joined to the frame. I would suggest removing the window assembly and unbolt the shaft from the body. Someone who is a good welder would be able to TIG the shaft to the frame. The shaft needs to be properly aligned to the window frame. If i recall, there's a slight arch in relation to the shaft and frame.

They are in great shape besides the broken shafts and slight surface rust on the bottom.

It's super easy to take them out. You have to remove the door panels first, and if I'm not mistaken the vent seals too to get access to the bottom screw holding in the frame. The whole window assembly is inside a frame and the frame is removable, it't held in by I think 5 or so screws. There is also a spring on the bottom of the vent window shaft. It's been a while since I've had one of these apart.

Thanks. I think you meant to say nice Regal, they are even harder to find than the Centurys. 8)

I think the broken part of the shaft is seized in the hole. I was kinda worried about busting the glass if I tried welding the shaft back on. Do you know if the glass is glued in the metal frame? Maybe I could take the glass out of the frame then weld it.

If I'm not mistaken, the glass is glued in or uses an adhesive strip to retain the glass. The first thing I'd do is to remove the seized in shaft. Apply some PB Blaster in the area. You might have to give it a few doses and let it penetrate for a day or so.
I have once tried welding the shaft back onto the window frame with the glass still in place. I think I used a cold wet rag on the glass to keep it cool, but I think removing the glass would be the better idea. You could probably apply some heat to the frame using a heat gun in order to soften the seal.
Like I might have said, the shaft needs to be slightly arched in relation to the contour of the door frame.

Have you tried looking for a replacement at the junkyard? At least if you have a replacement window, you won't mind experimenting with the broken one.
Either way, good luck!

Did you manage to get it welded on without busting the window out? I tryed pulling out the glass and that sucker is in there.
I'll try heating up around the seal to soften it up a little then try and pull it out.

I went around to the junk yards and did some searching, but no luck. The ones around here really do suck. The oldest cars they have are from the mid 90's.
