Recently picked up an aluminum core support out of a 78 Regal that also had the aluminum trunk lid. Recently found another 78 Turbo Regal on Craigslist for parts and thought I was going to find another aluminum core support but was disappointed. It was strange that the car did have an aluminum trunk lid. Has anybody else encountered this. The owner said the car was all original. What determined that a car would get an aluminum core support?

im just curious as to why the G-body cars are like that with the aluminum parts?
Think it was a supplier problem, and sometimes they had to use the aluminum parts when they ran out of the steel parts? I know the cars sold like hotcakes, so it would kinda make since considering the sheer quantity of these cars they produced at the time. And they did pretty poorly on build quality back then, so maybe the supervisors just didn't care and only cared about keeping the lines moving.
Just a poorly put together theory, i suppose

Yeah, there's a thousand theories. Not sure what the real deal was. Aluminum parts do seem to be more plentiful on the diesel cars it seems.
