I'm converting my hot air choke to an electric choke in my 85 442. I've read the sticky and I also have an electric service manual, so I understand how it's supposed to be done. Since I don't like splicing wires unless absolutely nessesary, I'd like to do this as cleanly as possible. I'm not bothering with the issue of setting up the wiring so the choke is only getting power when the engine's running.

There is a terminal H4 on the engine harness connector bolted to the firewall ( under the wiper motor ), that is used as the 12v power source for factory equiped electric chokes. From there it goes to the choke heater fuse on the fuse box.

So I'd like to route the choke wire into terminal H4, where I'd get the proper 12V key on power for the choke and the appropriatly labled fuse on the fuse box. To me, this seems the cleanest way possible.

So my question is, since my car didn't come with an electric choke from the factory, is the appropriate wiring ( actually just a single brown wire ) there from terminal H4 on the engine harness connector to the choke heater fuse on the fuse box?

In other words, can I route the choke wire to terminal H4, install a 20 amp fuse in the fuse box labeled for the choke heater, and expect it to work with no fuss?

Doing some more digging in the electrical service manual has shown I should in fact be able to do this. Just 1 wire connected to terminal H4 on the bulkhead connector and it's done. The fuse box even has a 20 amp fuse already in there too.

I gotta ask this. Did you ask and answer your own question? lol

Well, I asked the question because I only had a working therory, then did some digging and found out for myself that my therory was correct.

So now I wonder if it is this simple and clean, why is nobody else doing it like this?
