question about optima

No, not all good.

A lot of people report problems with red tops. I bought a brand new one and it wouldn't keep its charge. I had to replace it under warrantee (within 6 months) -- the 2nd one is fine, for now. Some people have reported very short lives for their red tops. Seems conventional batteries out last the red tops. See google.

Having said that, maybe you got a good one. If not, you'll be replacing it within the next year or so!

The quality of Optima has dropped.

My first red top lasted 8 years, then switched to NAPAs Orbital 6 or DEKAS Intiminator.

That being said alot of problems with Optima and other gel/agm batteries is operator error.

Do a search, they need to be maintained different then a lead acid.

They have big stickers saying to charge SLOW with no more then 2 amps IIRC.

If the battery dies and you blast it with a multiple giga-watt 🙂 charger, you will fry it.

A battery tender is your friend.

I have three red tops that ive had since about 2003 all still going strong. Two are in DDs and the third is in my regal which has pretty much sat unfortunately for about 4 years now and it still holds a charge. Ive heard from a lot of people the quality has gone downhill lately though which I can't really comment on since all mine are older.
