Have a 84 Monte and my wipers have been acting erratic choosing random times when not to turn on. A real hazard in WA State with all this rain up here and your driving and all of a sudden the wipers stop working! Also my brights won't switch back to the regs! Now my question is this, would this problem point more towards the actual turn signal/wiper/cruise control lever or would I need to replace the switch inside the steering wheel? I'm ready to go and buy the part, just don't wanna buy the wrong one! Thanks in advance for any input!

So I guess I'm just gonna have to take a chance and order the lever first. Hopefully that fixes the problem, if not then on to the next.

Sounds like you need the wiper pivot switch that the lever goes into. The lever has virtually nothing in it. You will need some special tools to change it. http://www.rockauto.com about $85 bucks. listed under wiper switch, for a 84 MC.

Ah man! Was hoping it was gonna be an easy fix, guessing I have to take apart the steering wheel/column to get to it. So it's called a wiper switch, now does it switch the headlights from reg to high beams also? Just making sure before I drop almost $100 on this part. Thanks!

What kind of special tools are needed? I can't find a "how to replace" anywhere online.

Does anyone know what this part is called? This is the actual part that clicks the bights on/off. Noticed it was really hot and is not clicking when I pull the turn signal lever.

Here is a better pic. Headlight Dimmer Switch! Fingers crossed this is the cause of the problem! I'll post an update soon!

Success! That was the culprit and nly $10 too! So anyone out there who is having the same problem, check your headlight dimmer switch before anything!

Did you fix the wiper problem also ?

No way to tell yet because the wipers stop working so randomly. Luckily it only happens 1-2 x a month depending on the rainy season.
