There is a guy selling a 700r4 transmission out of a Camaro and has the torque converter with it for $350. He took it out because he did a 5 speed swap.

I have a 350 engine and a TH-350 transmission right now. Should I buy this or should I wait and get a 200-4r?

Wait for a 200-4R. You wont have to change your driveshaft with that swap. Plus its a better trans IMO.

Oops! I forgot about the driveshaft too. Stupid of me, since that was a major factor in my recent decision to get the 200-4R.

The only problem with the 200-4R is that it's not as common.

Rebuilt, they're about equal in durability. The 700R4 has a slight edge on the strip due to its first gear ratio but IIRC, the 2004R has a better top end.

No problem man...I forgot about the drive shaft too...

I am sure I can get a 200 4r cheap,,,,,getting it rebuilt is another story.

I prefer and am holding out for a 700r4. I think I found which one I am getting. I can pay $130 to shorten/balance existing shaft, not too bad. I may just order me an aluminum one for $300( only $170 more), and keep this one incase I don't like the mod.

My truck has a 700r4 and I'm just not a fan of the steep first gear... it may not bother others though. Also, if you go with the 200 I think you can re-use your th350 crossmember with an extension or something.

The TH350 and 2004R use different crossmembers. If you change to the overdrive you need a new crossmember. The TH350 and TH200 used the same crossmember while the overdrive trannies used a different crossmember.

Do you have any pull-a-parts by you? I paid like $90 for mine, but who knows if it will work though. At the one by me you can get a 30 day warranty for a small fee. There actually more common than many people think, they just are not the performance versions. Just look at all of the bigger wagons and cars, there was a lot of them by me.
