Metra kit. You're supposed to bend the tabs of the cage to fit into the adapter.

THE ADAPTER IS COMPLETELY SMOOTH.

There's nothing for the tabs to bend in to to hold the god damn thing.

I've never installed an aftermarket radio before, this is the only thing hanging me up and it's infuriating. I can't find a single bit of info about my problem, like always.

Any help is appreciated.

I only have experience with decks such as Alpines and Pioneer and so fourth. There is usually an outer aluminum sleeve that slides in the deck housing of the car. This housing has several triangle tabs that you would push out to catch in the recession of the car. You would slide that in, bend out the tabs and then the deck would slide in and "lock". Then you have two "keys" that would slide down the left and right of the deck to remove it if need be for any reason. Came you post a picture of what ya got. That way I can wrap my brain around it. I am thinking what your saying is the recessed section of the metra kit is fully smooth?

I've got the sleve the radio came with, there's nowhere for any tab to lock in at all. It's completely smooth.

You need to bend the tabs on that sleeve to lock into place into the housing part it usually just enough to catch the lip and the sterio should clip in once pushed through

It looks like there's a tiny bit of a lip around the perimeter. The tabs won't fold over completely, they'll barely move at all. But it appears that the outermost tabs will bend enough to catch that lip. I bet if you work your way around and depress each one it'll stay snug.

If your really concerned about it biting in..mark the tab spots...use a dremel to "notch" SMALL spots for the tabs to grab. As others said the tabs just need to catch. They won't have hole to lock into. It seems silly but it's a round hole square peg kinda thing lol.
