I have a 79 malibu with the factory AC delco 8 track I want to put in a pioneer single din I have all I have to buy is http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stereo-Radi...1979|Model:Malibu&hash=item4cfcc76b22&vxp=mtr and the wiring harness correct? Do I have to cut the plastic piece that covers the radio an AC controls?

It depends on the faceplate. If you have the one with the radio knobs you probably will. Trace it out with the new radio, then put dome blue masking tape down along the cutting lines you marked out, and I used a Dremel to make the cuts and a small dremel wheel to smooth it. If you have the faceplate with the larger opening then you will need to fabricate some plastic or lexan to cover the openings from the size difference of the radios. You can get that cheap at Home Depot or Lowes. Cut it the same way with a Dremel or something similar. I'm no expert so I've used jigsaws and other stuff to cut it but it all turns out fine.

You can actually go to http://www.crutchfield.com to check the radio and the fit to your car and what you will need to install it, then compare prices to Ebay and Amazon. Amazon is sometimes cheaper and if you have Prime 2 day shipping is free. I always check all 3 sites for pricing before I order. I've bought more stereo stuff off Amazon than Ebay recently. A Google search will also give you the wiring polarity of the stock harness so you know which is + and - when making connections. You may only need to by the installation plate and the wiring harness. Although if your radio came with the plug and you can find the wiring diagram on the internet you may be able to do away with the harness. I installed my new radio with information from the internet and no harness adapter.

So is that the correct dash kit? I appreciate you giving me feedback it is the one with two knobs so ill have to cut it. I guess installing the dash kit and radio come before cutting the hole for the most accurate placing correct?

That looks like the correct dash kit. The info says it is specific for your vehicle. I am not sure which radio you are installing but I still think checking Crutchfields site is still a good idea. Just to make sure its not some funky odd size and all. Once you line up everything for placement then it's time to measure and cut.

It's a single din I know the radio wil fit I just wanted to see if it fit the car thank you though I'll take pics when I get it done but may be a week or two before I get to it I'm doing paint and body work on it now

If your original faceplate is nice or to keep an even better factory appearance, go with an 86-up faceplate from a Monte Carlo SS or LS-it will install much cleaner along with an 86-up universal stereo install kit. The late model faceplate will install directly over the radio opening edge and will look nicer than cutting up yourexexisting radio bezel.
