Has anyone ever verified the accuracy of a stock Rally Pac tach by compairing it to a known accurate high quality tach? How accurate was it during fast reving and not just a steady RPM?

I have the gauge cluster from a Monte SS in my El Camino and I suspect the quality/accuracy of the rest of the factory G Body gauges are about the same. Frankly I’m not really impressed.

The Tach reads about 250 RPM higher than the engine is really running and does not respond as quickly as the engine runs, the Temp gauge reads 30 degrees hotter than the temp really is. It’s kind of the luck of the draw, I know there are clusters more accurate than mine, and I know there are some that are worse.

Before anybody says anything, all the terminals/connections are clean and the grounds are good.

I really like the way the cluster looks, and as this is a daily driver (and I’m aware of the inaccuracies I can live with it (I’ll probably try an OE or another new sender for the temp gauge one of these days).

If I was going to race it, I’d probably gut the dash and build a new one with quality aftermarket gauges.
