Only the '79 Hurst/Olds got the dual gate, the '83 & '84 Hurst/Olds had the Lightning Rod shifter. Now there were 4 speed manual Pontiacs that did have the Comp Plus shifter.
yes, i know about the hurst dual gate shifters in the 79 H/O cars, i have several of the shifters. i may not be using the correct name, but pontiac offered a spring loaded auto shifter that acted like a dual gate shifter. there was no second gate like the hurst shifters, you would place the shifter in first and push the shifter to the right and forward, the lever would stop at second gear and when moved again, it would stop at third gear. think of it as a way that pontiac engineered a way to get around paying hurst for the dual gate shifter.
i have two of these shifters that i pulled, one from a 78 grand am and one from a 78-80 grand prix. these are factory shifters. i'll post pics monday. just wondering what years they were offered, was it a special option of did all get it, etc.
