I'm at a crossroads of sorts. I'm toying with modifying my '81 Century a bit, but I'm finding these cars to be somewhat rare as I cannot find any! Does anyone have any idea how many Century's were produced on the A/G body platform in '81, or even just in general?

This is my second '81 Century with the 265 / metric 200 combo. Am I the only one who has owned this same exact car twice?:?

They built quite a few of them, and they sold fairly well, but nothing close to the sales that the Cutlass saw(biggest selling g-body). But being kind of an oddball body style, people didn't hang on to them, and most of them were simply driven into the ground and/or sent to the junkers...

A better question is how many are left...

Down the street from the shop I work at there was a pretty minty looking four door slantbacked Century sitting on a trailer earlier this summer...so I guess they're still out there...

It's your car...and unless it only has like 10K original miles on it I say modify it to your hearts content!

The Centuries are probably the "rarest" of the G bodies to find still around today. The Pontiac 265 was only produced for 2 years and isn't found all too much either. But.. I wouldn't let those facts stop you from modifying the car, because they are in the same category as my '78 Lemans. That being they are neat old cars, but they have very little collector interest so changing things up isn't going to dramatically change the value of the car.
