I know about the GN, T-Type, 442, and Monte SS and how the 8.5 will bolt in. Around here they cost an arm and a leg, and maybe your first born, I want to know if and how hard any of the other 10 or 12 bolt rears are to bolt in. I know the upper mounts are different than a normal A body, does anyone make special upper bars that adapt the Abody to the Gbody? The 7.5 that is in there isn't going to last long when we bolt in the GTO motor and transmission. I'm setting this up to drag race only, with a car show thrown in once in a while. We aren't new to fabrication, but we are also on a time frame to have this done by the 1st of Feb. for the racing season. Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Rick

my 2 cents: if you're doing drag racing you should really have a strong rear with the correct mounts. it's my understanding that the A-body rears have binding problems in g-bodies. one thing that you can do is get a non-g-body 8.5 or a 12 bolt and have the proper mounts welded on. i believe that you need to have fabrication work done anyway, since most tracks won't allow racing with c-clip's.

well, i have heard some people having binding problems with the a-body 12 bolt, but only because they do not do it right. if you use the control arms made for the swap, you will not have any binding issues. also, a ford 8.8 will work. trz motorsports actually make a kit for it now. then of course, you could always do a 9" and get brackets welded on, or just buy a 9" made for the g-body.

Where do you get control arms for an A body rear end to fit?

if you type in "g-body" in ebaymotors, it will bring up a bunch of results. just look for the double adjustable 12 bolt control arm kit.
