so i started building my frame into more of a straight line car than a nice riding land yacht. plans are a double frame rail, frame notch, boxed stock rails and new trans crossmember setup. also bracing up the rear half of the car. when the body goes back on (after i get a new one), its getting mini tubbed to tuck a 275 or 295 on a 10" or 12" wide wheel, the trunk will get done possibly in carbon fiber and the floorpan will be modified to fit the frame underneath. also getting 12 point cage. trying to do as much as i can myself to keep this manageable. will post more pics as it progresses.

Sounds interesting!, though i am interested in building the opposite of what you are doing.. 😀 What braces are near the rear of the frames now? The rear axle is notched already right?

right behind the bumper will get a horizontal x-member which will tie into the existing lower one behind the spring pockets. the frame has not been notched yet, these pics are a stock width rail with a 275/60R15. hoping to fit the same size tire on it but on a 12" wide wheel instead of an 8" wide one. might have to settle for a 10" one though. trying to get the car low, but keep as much of the stock rail as possible. will probably only notch to the seam in the factory rail. i hear you can fit a 325/50R15 going to the seam, but it doesn't tuck the tire, forcing you to keep the car at just about stock height.

Looked like the rear tires were a bit wide.... , what are the braces in front of the diff and over it?

I have seen 295/65/15 with a frame notch and no tub.

the car is getting the face of the frame rail cut off behind the tires and a new piece added in further towards the middle of the frame. the braces are to strengthen the rear of the car. the rails (i would assume) probably wont be as strong as they were because theyll be narrower. so i added some bars to make sure things dont move around.

yea, i have been looking at probably 10-15 different frame notch/minitubs a day trying to determine what is the best way. i wanna get the car 2-3" lower than stock and have the tires tucked in under it. trying to remove as little rail as possible. still definitely considering a 295 tho. originally was hell bent on a 315, but after seeing some of the outlaw 275 cars (and how much work it will be to stuff a 315), i figure a 275 or 295 will be more than enough. hoping to go mid nines on spray, which seems pretty conservative with X275 cars in the 7's! totally unbelievable.

Yea outrageous what they can do on a 275 with great suspension work and track prep. I wanted to do the 295/65/15 drag radial for traction on the street with a 509ci and good converter. Height generally means better sidewall give and a larger footprint for better traction compared to more wider tire. Its also especially with a tuck generally more discreet than a wider but shorter tire. A taller sidewall is also more consistent.

yea the height is definitely a good thing. ill see what i come up with. still figuring out the rest of the car. not sure if its getting a powerglide or a th400 yet. its getting a pretty rowdy N20 small block, but im confident i can get it to hook even on a 275. suspension should work well, getting trz rear control arms/ anti roll bar and coilovers in the rear. have double adjustable coilovers for the front and spohn tubular arms. also getting a manual rack from tnt. very excited about the whole project, cant wait for the first holeshot!
