How do you remove the center counsel of a 78 Monte Carlo. I purchased new carpet and need to get the old out and the new underneath the floor shifter.

Thank you,

I am not positive of this but I think that the gear indicator snaps off and their should be some screws below that, their might be some screws in the bottom of the console also. I think pretty much how GM works is that if you cant find any screws some thing should just pry off and the screws/bolts will appear.

my 87 has a couple screws right under the cover. They hold the rear of the black trim piece that runs pretty much the length of the console, the front will just lift and pull back. Then there's 2 10 mil bolts in the bottom of it inside, and two underneath by where the shifter bolts to the floor. The shift handle itself has a horseshoe clip right on the front of the handle, just use a small screwdriver. Hopefully this helps
