Removing Cutlass Trim

How do you remove the chrome trim around the door and windows on a '85 Cutty. Do you need a special tool?

Also, is there a company that sales the 'dew strip' on the inside and outside of the windows? Mines all dry rotted and cracked.

The trim around the door windows is complicated. You need to pull the door apart and remove the window to get the piece on the door, and the weatherstripping channel on the B panel need to come out to take the drip rail molding and the B pillar trim off. If you remove the drip rail molding though, you will have a water leak inside and the car will not look right. If you want, I can take a picture of why this is.

Yeah sure. I'm just wanting to paint all my trim black instead of chrome ... but if it's gonna' be that hard then funk that noise.

Yup, it's a lot of work. Plus, it is almost impossible to do it without tearing up the roof rail weatherstripping too. You would also need some foam tape to put the rails back in as that is how GM sealed them to the car.

Mask the paint and windows, weatherstripping, etc. off first, then scuff them with a scothcbrite pad. I would paint them with gloss black spray paint as it lasts longer, and spray paint does not have high gloss anyhow. Use Krylon as the cheap stuff will chalk in under a year.

i used the duplicolor satin black over their self etching primer after 400 grit wet sanding my headlight buckets and it turned out real nice. i will have to see how long it lasts though. gloss black is harder to keep clean.

So what about that "dew strip" I was refering too? It's on the bottom of both windows on the inside and outside along the glass.
