I am thinking of trying out some track day (road race) events with my Cutlass as soon as I get it put together, but I am afraid of having the oil pump pickup become uncovered during hard cornering and starving the engine of lubrication. I also run the Edelbrock TES headers and Y pipe to the catalytic converter which runs between the pan and the frame crossmember for the front suspension. Is there an inexpensive oil pan out there which would fit my needs? I tend to worry about it because I have fuel slosh issues under hard cornering where the fuel will come out the vent tubes and puddle in the air filter housing, so I can only imagine what the oil is doing. The engine is a 1977 Chevy 350 with what has to be the world's crappiest oil pan. PS: I already have an oil cooler off a 1989 9C1 Caprice's 350 (Police package car).

you have fuel sloshing problem ,,,,,,
do you still have the quadrajet on? if so, i`m surprised!

pan wise, summit makes a 7 quart pan for 90.00
i woulndt go for a more expensive specialized pan first look at your pressure gauge just to be sure that you dont have any loss of pressure

Yeah, I have that issue with a Quadrajet. I am VERY hard on any car I drive and drive at 9.5/10ths all the time. I even have a problem with the rear tires feathering at the edges on my RWD pickup truck. In fact, I lost oil pressure in it tonight coming to a stop at a light while on deliveries, and have managed to boil the brake fluid out of the calipers on a few occasions too. All while delivering pizza in my Nissan Frontier pickup. I like to run it to the top of second (7,000 RPM) all the time because of the lovely sound of that DOHC 4 banger. If I am that rough on a slow, boring POS, you can imagine how I am in a car that can actually perform with my driving abilities. My Cutlass has very good grip as is, and that will only improve soon as I am finished improving the front suspension geometry, brakes, and installing a 5 speed. I expect to exceed 1g cornering loads with it, and that is why I am concerned with the oil control, especially when I start doing track days and try my hand at drifting.
