I have some questions for the Q-Jet. My 3.8 V6 is about to go any day (week?) now, and I was wondering a few things. One, could I use the same linkage the 2 barrel had? did I meantion the SBB that is going in it's place doesn't have anything above the intake? Like, everything carb related was taken off. 😛 Also, where would be a good place to get a carb? NO junkyards I know of here in Iowa even have anything before 1990. So getting a Qjet from there is out of the question. So, in short, would the factory linkage and kickdown and throttle cables work and the factory electric choke wiring? Thanks.

You can find a Buick/Olds/Pontiac w/front facing fuel line Q-jet on Epay, Craigslist, and sometimes the on-line rebuilders. RockAuto may have what you need too, all rebuilt and ready to go. I'm not sure what year your car is but I'm *ss-uming you are NOT using the computer. That would make your target years '75-'80 where the linkage would be similar and an '80 would have the electric choke standard. The earlier hot air choke models can be retro-fitted easily. Linkage is the problem. While the accelerator cable will probably fit, the cable mount may need to be repositioned, no biggie. The trans kickdown is more problematic, but not impossible. I'm guessing this will be a 350 Buick? You will LOVE it!

Yeah man, it will. Was inspired to do this by that thread I saw on here a while back about a 3.8 to a SBB, and my v6 biting the bullet. 😛 It will not be easy, but it's easier than putting in a damn chevy. Thanks man.

Check out v8buick.com and its small block section for very good information on the SBB.

different year SBBs had different compression ratios, though the Quadrajets on them were calibrated similarly across the years.

The real change was 1975 (crappy anaeroid Qjet) when the Qjet went from the 4M style to the M4M style

1976 and up buick 350 Qjets are the ones best suited for fitting into Gbodies IMO, and they are converted easily to electric choke, if they arent already outfitted with it.
