I have a Rochester quadrajet that is on my '79 chevy 350 and I looked up the numbers and it said it was a california standards carb. What does that Mean? I want to rebuild it and was wondering if it's worth it or not. Also what is the best rebuild kit to get? I saw somethin on a tv show about puting bushings for the throttle plate so the butterfly valves don't have too much play. Is that something that comes with most kits? The numbers are 17059506 and here's a picture. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

Honestly, the best thing would be to buy the book by ruggles, read and understand it. There is also numerous set up tips in the back for various engines what rods to use, jets, and other various tips and tricks.

http://www.newagemetal.com/ This site has all specs on Q-jets. They are infinitly adjustable. Cliff"s book and Roe's book are the source for practicle info. 79' is a good year Q-jet. The hot air choke can be converted to electric very easy.

I have both books their a great read. They call me DR QUAD round here hahahahhahahahha

ok. thanks for the help. What's the difference in the california carbs and the others though. What's the best rebuild kit to get for it?

Looking at the parts sheets on Newage, all I see different are the high altitude aneroid and/or a solenoid, for what I don't know. It may be a version of the accellerator pump bypass you find on truck carbs. Either way, they are in the aneroid cavity and it looks like you can just remove and use the plastic filler 49 state carbs use.
