been a while since ive been here but back on my gbody work. i was wondering if anyone knew the ft/lbs of torque for the rocker studs for a stock 30 engine. i read online somewhere it was50 ft/lbs but seems to be a lot. @ 35 ft/lbs the spring starts to close. im sure thats not correct. any input would be appreciated, thanks fellas.

rocker stud to cylinder head torque 7/16 stud is like 70 ft lbs. if you are just adjusting your rocker arms. there isn't a torque spec. i'm assuming that's what you're doing because you say the valves are opening. rocker arm nuts are locking nuts, i adjust them to firing order 18436572, make sure the valves are closed on compression stroke and turn them 3/4 turn past zero lash on hydraulic lifters. hopefully this helps.

hmm, no what i did was change the lifters on the block. practically i just want to have the rockers hold the push rod in place and not have it to tight.

50 ft pounds. Just checked Chevy v8 torque specs. It was the same for small blocks and big blocks.

jwhorndog was right. If you just want to hold the pushrods in place-IT WILL GET EXCITING. The 3/4 turn past no slack is to keep the push rod CUP in the lifter, from slamming into that LITTLE retainer clip. THAT is for hydraulic lifters. I remember an old Pontiac that used torque. Did you change to solid lifters??

It sounds like you are trying to adjust the rockers, not the studs. In that case the dude above is right, no torque spec and dont torque them, you will break sh*t.
