how do i get my gp to run on straight motor. i was told that i have to cut the emmision wires but i;m not sure which lines to or not to cut. and i dont wanna mess anything up. but does it reaally make a difference in performance. the upgrades that i want to do i was told that i wont pass emmsions. but i was lead to believe that in september a law take affect that certain cars of a certain year dont have to get emmisions done anymore. i just dont wanna wiat all the way to september. the upgrades are going to be a intake, edle carb, carb spacer, air cleaner. just looking for lil bit of advise

i stay in the STL. what excactly do i remove to get the performance that i need. like i daid i dont want to cut the wrong thing.

sorry nman but i dont know what letters mean i think i know what the canister is. thats in front. but as for the other stuff i would need the names of the stuff tho remove

well i have done this process already and it can get a little wierd. First of all do you have the computer or are you lucky enough to not have one? If you have one then it can get in volved. I had one and here is what i did.

1. removed the EGR (on the manifold near left of carb, get a block off plate)
2. removed the smog pump (A.I.R.) the small pump on the left side with tubes comming from it
3. cut lines that lead to the smog pump and blocked off the ones left.
4. Removed the whole A.I.R. valve (black thing between the A.I.R. pump and the other tubes, has some wires going to it... cut 'em)
5. Got rid of the cat converter
-----this is where i had to do extra b/c the computer stuff----
6. Q-jet from ebay (non computer.. no mixture control)
7. Distributer from ebay (w/ vacume advance)
8. removed the "coal canister"
9. removed all traces of compter wires in the cab and engine bay
10. true dual exhaust (optional but realy nice)
11. headers (have not done it yet but really need to!)

all together I cut out a whole trash can of wires and a large box full of "plumbing"

and yes there is more you can do but this is the basic easy stuff
GOOD LUCK!

thanx i'm really interested i was told that there isnt much i can do. but i dont belive that. i mean i'm not trying to make it a 10 sec car but just quick i guess or faster than what it is. what else could i do to make this happen.

put a set of gears in it man, chances are it has crappy gears 2.29's or 2.56's. a nice set of 3.73 or 3.42 gears wakes it up alot! works better with an overdrive transmission unless ya dont do much high way driving lol

how dig of a pain in the butt is putting in a new ring and pinion i have a 78 lemans that i droped a new motor, trans, heders, exhaust the whole nine yards but i still have yet to find much info on this
