I've just started noticing that most of the pictures Canadian members post that include a couple of daily driven cars in the photo appear to be rather non-salty.And whenever I see a I residential or rural road in a Canadian member's photo they also appear non-salty.

For example - new member here from Calgary https://gbodyforum.com/threads/engine-built-15-years-ago-finally-running.81125/#post-832714

- look at the cars and street in the background. Leaves me smh and wondering why doesn't the road appear to be used for chalkboard erasor cleaning, just the same as they do here in the great state of Rustbelt NY.

I can't make it 8 miles home from the car wash without having the side of my truck being white with salt.

I'm sure there is something to this, that will include some slanders directed at us southern peoples driving ability (probably rightfully so), but it is shocking to see ice and snow without a 25 ton of salt dispersed per mile.

What do you think?

This was yesterday, I think they don't salt as much as you guys because we have a drier climate and don't get east coast style dumps here. Generally we dont salt when its colder than -20C because gravel/sand works better for the permafrost. Our highways are less busy, lower population and all.

A lot of rural MN and the Dakotas don't use salt either. It's too cold for much of the winter for salt to work and people have 4wd, know how to drive, or just have a buddy to pull them out of the ditch when they get stuck because running into other people isn't as big of a deal when there is no other traffic. Honestly MT, western ND or SD are great places for project cars because its dry and cool.

Manitoba (near Winnipeg at least) uses sugar beet juice on the roads according to my FIL who drove semi there

Depends on what part of Canada you're looking at, some are more salted than others.

I grew up in both Edmonton and the Greater Toronto Area, and can tell you there are WAY more rusted out vehicles in Ontario here.

Your roads are just coated with liberal tears. Up here were predominately liberal by global standards, and conservatives don't cry.
