Hey Olds buds...Ive concluded that I have an issue with the accelerator cable on my engine being too long. Since I am using a 2bbl set up, and the car came with a dualjet on the v-6, my pedal hits the floor 1/2"-1" before the carb is WOT. I either need to get a shorter cable, reposition the bracket, or alter the cable length somehow. I know that because of the 2bbl, the cable attaches farther back on the carb than it would on a 4bbl set up with this engine. What I need to know is, what is the distance between the front of the intake and the cable attachment on a qjet set up on an sbo. This measurement will confirm for me that my cable length is too long, and will need replacement or modification. I have an older cable that came from a 70's cutlass with a 2bbl set up but I really dont want to swap the cable if I dont have to, and I have no simple way to measure the difference in length between the two cables. Im pretty sure that because of the lack of WOT, my tv cable is not in sync with the engine....any suggestions would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance....

Bill

Edit: After thinking about this some more....I realize that this measurement may not help me....but thanks anyway....

Can't give you a measurement, car is in storage, but I did run into the same thing when I swapped to the V8 (not enough throw to actuate the secondaries). Unless you want to make a new bracket, find a 4bbl cable.

Thanks for the tip...the problem Im having is that I am using the cable that was OEM with the v6. The dual jet linkage is farther away from the firewall than is the 2gc carb on the 350 I have now. Any ideas how to shorten this cable? Im long by 1/2 to 1inch, and Ive looked at universal cables and they dont look like they would work well with the stock brackets. My intent is to keep it as stock in appearance as possible. If I could shorten the cable by an inch or so, it might work, but Im also worried that it will pull the pedal up too far, which wouldnt be very fun to deal with. Ive been looking at the 4bbl cable, which is the same overall length, but has a 1/2inch longer sheath. Can I assume that makes the travel of the cable longer?....idk...im stuck on this one..

If you're using the stock qjet cable bracket, get a stock q jet cable meant for your application, problem solved. You "may" be able to shorten the cable at the pedal if there's no g's in your local j/y though, you'll have to recrimp the cable stop (more of a pain than it's worth imo, but if that's the route you need to go.....)

What I figured out that I need is a measurment off of a carb car with a 2004r .... I need the idle measument of the cable length and the WOT measure of the cable length. That will tell me the total amount of travel I need to allow for on my set up....any and all help will be GREATLY appreciated!!!

This is how its set up at the moment
