Hey Guys .

Got a few questions Im building a 355 chevy for my 85 442 project strip/street notice streets 2nd

Anyway Im in the middle of searching for my long tubes and come across Schoenfeld Headers They are long tubes with 1-3/4 tubes which i think is perfect for my combo

they are 179.99 and seem to be a screaming deal. vs any other g body specific long tube like super comp list for like 500+

Whose has had these any rants or raves ? fittment qaulity?

thanks Erik O

Sorry I don't know anything about them. But sheesh much as I don't like seeing another belly button sbc put in an Olds 442 its certainly a benefit of useing one. I put a Cadillac 500 in an 87 Olds 442 so I am not being hypocritical of a non olds in an Olds. It was a free engine that I rebuilt and warmed up for a daily driver type setup. Anyway my one splurge was headers and ended up with $600 in them. Its under username Vern in the pics if you want to see it but you can't see the headers very well.

A great many Olds' came from the factory with a Chevy small block in the engine bay. My Cutlass did.

Yoda, its just my opinion and stated as such. Their is no slam. I know many especially Canadian Olds gbodys came with sbc but his did not come with one and Olds never put one in a 442. In general it disgruntals more people when done to a 442 as oppossed to a regular Cutlass. The point was while I don't care to see sbc's or in general anything other than an Olds motor put into a 442 (although I did it myself) $180 headers if they work without major work is a benefit of having the belly button vs $600 like I caughed up.

On the flip side lots of guys would not care to see someone rip a sbc 305 out of a MCSS to put in an Olds 350, or a Buick 350 or a Pontiac 350 or a Ford etc.

guys I know that these cars are coveted machines

But honestly you score a 67,506 mile 85 442 all there for 300$ with a hole the size of texas in the block and mangled heads and leaks galore. with a transmission that looked like sombody filled it up with rotor shavings

You would get her going again with the funnest cheapest route going?

Sorry but im 21 and dont have cash flowing out my butt if i did wouldnt be building G bodys..... (yes probbally) but besides the point. Im making her all nice nice again also. Give me a shot

I stumbled onto the car and Im makin myself smile doing it.

442force, Have fun and thanks for saving the car. I am surprised no one has any answers for you about the headers. Sbc is a legitamate and one of the cheaper choices from where she was. Olds 350/403 being the other since no changes have to be made and no brackets etc have to be acquired. I stumbled across the big Cad for free otherwise I was not looking for one. When I read up I found out it had been done liked the idea of building something different and found out the power to dollar was cheap in the power range I was looking.

If you plan to actually put some miles on her and take her out of town you should consider having that KZ code 200-4r rebuilt by a hi-po shop that has had good results building 200-4Rs. Think you are allowed a 1/3 more gear to make her quicker and still get great mileage and low rpm wear on the motor when on the highway. I got 17.0 mpg on the highway with the 509ci when with a regular three speed with the same converter stall, rear gears, and no converter lock up might have gotten 12mpg. Its worth considering putting the money into a rebuild depending on your goals. And since this car came with a specific strengthened coded calibrated transmission it might also be of some value to next owner if he were wanting to do a resto.
