The "Comp Cams" Magnum roller tip rockers keep tapping. My mechanic suggests that I need 3/8" screw in studs because the high lift camshaft (.465in/.488ex) is causing the press in studs to come out. He insists that installing screw in studs will make my tapping rocker arm problem go away. Does this sound correct to you? Also please preview the video posted below and give your suggestions to whether my mechanic is adjusting the rocker arms correctly by adjusting while the car is running, or should he be using the feeler gauge/valve lash method. With these type of rocker arms is it necessary to set valve lash? Thanks a Million!

I have always converted to screw in studs for any performance application and if your press in studs are pulling out that it will be necessary.
As far as rocker adjusted with hydrualic lifters I do a initial cold adjustment first and then do a final adjustment with the engine running at operating temp.
For small block chevy I do one side at a time and loosen one rocker until it clatters and focus on that specific sound then slowly tighten it until it goes away , then I will usually go another half turn but in quarter turn increments and let the lifter readjust between turns.(it takes maybe 10 seconds until the idle comes back up) I didn't what the whole video but it appears he was doing it correctly.

Ok thanks. It gives me a warm feeling inside reading your reply. The screw in stud upgrade sounds like it will correct my problem. Thanks once again.
