Hey guys on my little DD 95 4.3L Jimmy I get a squealing noise which later goes away after the engine fully warms up. Of course my first move was to check my serpentine belt and all the pulleys. So in the process I noticed that the noise seemed to be coming from the rear of the engine bay right around the distributor. I want to know should I just go ahead and swap it. Im almost positive that's what it is, but a second opinion never hurts...and unfortunately im away from my hometown automotive gurus...lol

:bump:

Could be from lack of oil maybe. I have a 2000 with a 4.3, never heard of that problem before. Id pull off the cap and turn it over while cold and see if it still does it. If it doesn't, it probably means you cap n rotor are somehow contacting eachother.

My grandpa had this issue in his van. He took the distributor apart and greased everything that needed greased up and it fixed it. It might be easier and safer in the long run to just replace it with an OEM unit depending on cost. My grandpa is just old fashioned and refuses to spend money

"My grandpa is just old fashioned and refuses to spend money " So is this Grandpa! I'd pull that distributor out and see what's up. Spin it by hand and investigate. To properly lubricate the shaft the cam gear needs to be unpinned and removed, the shaft pulled out, and the cavity inside greased with high temp grease. And there may or may not be bronze bushings in there too that need cleaning and inspection. Basically you are looking at a distributor rebuild/'overhaul so you may as well do it all up properly.

I went ahead and swapped the dizzy and problem was solved. THis was the first i ever heard of this issue with a distributor. The truck was already running pretty great and still is after the repair. Just a few more repairs before its time to sell it...lol

Thanks for all the input. I have to admit, i got a bit scared at first that it was some internal issue before i discovered what it actually was

I think the worst is when you can't get the bugger out. I spray carb cleaner around the base and wiggle it out.
