Has anybody Shaved their quater panel Emblems?

Any pics?

When I had my 'bu 15 years ago I did so. I've done it on several vehicles as well.

Easiest way I've found is to use 3M wax and adhesive remover and pour a little on the top of the foamy adhesive aand let it soak for a few minutes. Then I gently used a razor blade to remove the emblem, and then the adhesive.

Be sure to keep the area wet while scraping to reduce scratches. Then use a good polish on the area.

Yeah, it's pretty easy. I just didn't bother putting mine back on after the last time I painted it. The only ones that are held in by clips are the Oldsmobile Emblem on the nose of a 81+ Cutlass, and maybe something else on other models. The same goes for the factory ding strips. It's all just done with double sided tape or glue. Most cheapo paint shops will put them back on after paint with a different glue that does not release cleanly like the GM stuff does, so be forewarned. Also, the GM stuff is OLD now, so it may take some paint with it if you are not careful, or the paint underneath will not be as faded as the rest of the car.

Mine has two holes with bolts in the back of the emblem...Im about to weldthe holes up now, just thought id check before i did it.

85 Cutlass Brougham: what did you use to get the double sided tape residue off of the body? :?

I just finished removing them and welding up the holes, and spoiler holes and studs for rocker trim.

Well, the thing is, I did it during a complete repaint and so I did it using a razor blade, sandpaper and lacquer thinner. I was priming and blocking the car anyways, so it didn't matter. Most of the tape came off the car with the ding strips, but that was back in 1994 when the car was only 9 years old. I have owned it since 1993, and got it from a used car lot where it had been quickly painted, and the rusty roof was bondo'd over. So, I wound up having to re-do the body and painted the car myself.
