shifter linkage bracket

hey guys and gals. i have a 350 turbo and switched from column to floor column. i am having a problem with the bracket that hooks to the column and floor shifter. when i use the floor shifter the furthest it goes is drive it wont go to 2nd or 1st.

the bracket hits my header flanges. anyone ever have this problem or any idea how i can fix it.
 
With the floor shift, you only need the linkage to lock the steering. You could lop the lever off that holds the linkage to the column and stabilize the column in neutral. Might lose backup lights too.

This is what I did many years ago when I put in a B&M. I needed to do some extra wiring but can't recall details at the moment
