I'm looking through a paper shop magazine today and something caught my eye,a 1984 hurst/olds for only $1750.Now I know these cars are rare and the poorest conditioned 84 cars go for $1500,But its a hurst/olds,vin 9 307 and a 8.5 373 rear.Heres what the add said-1984 HURST/OLDS 307 with lightning rods and t tops,will run with little work,nice interior,needs restoration,many extra parts,must sell $1750.
Now i'm guessing this guy knows what he'll get because on the price,i guessing if he didnt have the parts the car would be $1500.Also since its a must sell-hurst olds,I need replys fast for this. This is all the info i got on this car,I havent called the guy yet about the car but i will sooner or later.oh yea i also found a stunning 85 cutlass supreme brougham 5 miles from where i live. I wish I was rich just once lol

Considering the value of just the shifter and rear axle would be around $1,000, plus all the other hard to find items on the car, It is worth it if it is not completely rusted away. If the body is decent and the interior good, a coat of paint and a good Olds engine (350,403,etc.) would make for a fun car for not much cash outlay.

I would go for it.

Even if the body is to far gone to rescue I'm willing to bet you could part it out and make your money back and then some. The rear itself is worth some good coin, and the engine will probably fetch a pretty penny if you can find someone restoring a VIN9 Hurst somewhere.

If you can afford it, I'd go for it.

Give the body and chassis a thorough inspection for rust... you know where to look.

It kills me to say, but you'd make your money back parting it out, but I'd much rather see it restored...
Of course what to do all depends on the condition of the car...

If I had the money, I'd buy it... 🙁
I'd love an '84 H/O to park alongside my 442.

I'd say go for it. Go over in your Cutlass tell him you love the cars and you'll give it a nice home and top notch restore 8) ...oh and after that ask him if he'll let it go for $1500.

Ya never know. The last Camino I bought the guy started at $2500 and an hour later...after yacking and what not he said well you sure know alot about these things...tell ya what...... $800 is as low as I'll go.

I would definitely buy it. I got my 83 HO for 500 dollars found an extra set of lightning rods in the trunk brand new in the Hurst box. for a 3spd and sold them for 600 on ebay. so basically got paid 100 bucks to take the HO. Car had a bad cam (surprise surprise) and a god awful smell in the interior (ttop car).

wow,yea hopefully when i call the guy wont tell me its been sold already.I plan on using the rear first of all, because its an 8.5 sturdy unit with 373 and maybe a posi.Second i'll part it out and maybe sell the body shell if the frame is bad,or if all else fails, use it for a daily driver, drive it in winter(grease the hell out of the frame) and eventually restore it with my salon someday.I really think its a good deal for an H/O,well depending how bad the rust and frame is.Lightning rods? Its sad to say i was never interested in those too much,if the H/O has a good pair how much do they normally go for?

Lightning rods usually go for around $500 on eBay...

I retract my earlier statement telling you to buy the car.
If you simply wish to harvest the 8.5 and use the rest as a winter beater, you don't deserve an '84 H/O.
Let somebody else buy it that is going to restore it...

well if the body shell is too far gone thats what it'll be,I'll part the good H/o parts out and use it like that. Then again you're right,it shouldnt be a daily driver. It all depends on the condition,if its horrible and filled with rust on the frame and body,I'm taking the rear and selling the rest,if its good enough I'll either buy it and leave it sit for a while til i can restore it,or sell it whole minus the rear.
