Doing an 6.0l swap and am wondering about header size. I'm planning on running long tubes but am undecided about whether to get the 1 7/8 or 1 3/4. My build isn't crazy wild: 6.0l with 706 heads and SS2 cam but it should run good (according to Richard Holdener). My initial thoughts were 1 7/8's but I don't think the 1 3/4's would hurt the performance any and maybe provide a little more clearance because they are smaller. Anybody have any issues or opinions on either size, I'd love to hear your thoughts. Thanks

I know you mentioned him but not sure if you have seen this video he just did.

As far as experience goes. I have the Speed Engineering 1 3/4 swap headers and they seem fine. A couple dents were need to clear the lower control arm mount. My Combo is a 5.3 with 220cc heads and a Summit 8708 cam. I plan to go turbo hopefully this year if not then I might do a blower of some sort with nicer header in 1 7/8 or 2” to better complement a blower.

Thanks, I had not seen this video. Looks like the 1 3/4 will be fine for me too. Thanks again
Unless it’s a max effort type deal I think 1-7/8 or bigger isn’t all that necessary. For what my car is I’m super happy considering the little money I have in it. It’s real quick for a relatively simple build. With an actual tune and decent converter I know it’ll be a different animal. With S.E headers and Hooker 3” exhaust. It quite loud especially that I daily it 50+miles a day.

Sounds great, thanks for the sound bite!

Go with the smallest header that fits the exhaust port. IF you can fit a 1 3/4" header go with it. Header size is over rated. I dynoed my 565 and made just at 1000 hp with a 2 1/8" header. So to me this shows that a small header can handle a lot of hp. And all those dyno tests that show a gain at wide open throttle, don't show anything for part throttle around town driving where you will see zero gain. Even the difference seen at wide open throttle will only be seen at the track on a timeslip.
