Hey guys. I have been keeping updates on the Cutlass under wraps, since I have been slowly working on it.
1. So far, I basically have rewired the entire vehicle- front to back. It was not easy- but it's done now in a custom way where only I can understand the schematic I created.
Besides the obvious LED's and vintage stereo- I've added some relays. One of them, will be running the electric fans.
Currently, I upgraded it to a CS130 alternator. 4 gauge to the battery, and starter.
The dyno sticker, says it energizes 120 amps at 5000+ rpm- this is great for my stereo- but is literally barely keeping the battery charged.
The AGM battery I have in it, is also been pretty well been through a lot, having it drained to near empty several times and a stereo system drawing lots of power as well.
2. The oil pan has a leak. For I have JB welded it, and it's doing much better but, one of my mechanics wouldn't touch it because the bolts are rusty.
Speaking of that, the rot is pretty bad, and the frame is being repaired. I had the rad support, welded back up last month.
See the photos for reference.
As you can see, the body "mount" is not so factory from one of the previous owners.
He also, said my front main is really badly swelled up, so I plan to also have not only the oil pan done, but now front and rear main also.
3. I also will be having a timing chain upgrade done too.
4. While on the thought of ignition timing?
I advanced it, quite a lot. It was my first time ever, getting involved with the ignition side but, after adjusting the carb screws carefully by ear I listened until it sounded better.
And my throttle response is f * * k i n g crazy.
Like I was in shock. It was better than any car I have owned, even my 2008 Silverado with the 6 L still isn't as responsive.
Not only that, I no longer get backfiring from the carb. Which is great, because I recently had a new side pipe exhaust- goes perfectly with the dialed in 305.
The only downside, is the starter HATES trying to turn the engine over after a small ride.
5. Now to change these things, I have made my to do list, and it is as follows.
